The Nest The Nest Fri 16 Aug 2024 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM Water is the primary and essential need of every living organism. In one hand it is running out, and in another it threatens our existence. Sarah Smout's latest project takes us on a transportive journey through our intrinsic and fragile relationships with water. From her own adventures by boat to islands near and far, from source to sea, Sarah’s music shimmers with the stories of people, places and beings whose voices need to be heard. Sarah's unique use of live-looped cello soundscapes, ethereal vocals and soulful poetry, she creates a transportive and mesmerising world leaving audiences captivated and spell- bound.




BIO:

Sarah Smout is an environmental artist weaving together nature, creativity, and activism to provoke thought and inspire change. Combining live-looped cello soundscapes, ethereal vocals and soulful poetry, Sarah creates a transportive and mesmerising world leaving audiences captivated and spell bound.  She has appeared at hundreds of festivals across the globe, worked with Greenpeace, COP26 and more, and toured her solo show ‘Eyjar’, inspired by her island-hopping sailing voyage to Iceland, at arts centres and venues across England. Sarah’s live recording and film ‘Rooted’ was screened at Kendal Mountain Festival, and she returned to KMF to perform a sold-out show alongside Simon Armitage, Robert MacFarlane and Sam Lee.
